FOOD INSECURITY

Through the organization I founded in 2016, I have distributed over 2 million pounds of healthy groceries and fresh produce to families all over Palm Beach County, feeding over 200,000 individuals. That is why ensuring all Floridians, our neighbors, can put food on their tables is a priority for me.

Every day I work tirelessly to help feed families who cannot afford to eat. Most of those I help are either hard-working families or senior citizens on a fixed income. We feed those who are disabled and cannot keep up with the rising costs of living. We help nourish cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy who are employed by jobs that do not provide sick pay. In fact, 1 out of every 10 families we feed are Veteran families.

The rising costs of living are strangling the middle class and trampling on those who were already paycheck-to-paycheck. Expenses like grocery bills, property insurance and condo assessments are putting Floridians into financial deficits.

There are over 80 food deserts in Palm Beach County and we must create opportunities for all communities to access nutritious and affordable foods. Diet-related illnesses are running rampant and affecting more people than ever before. Since prevention costs much less than treatment, we must invest in our communities to create greater access to fresh and healthful foods along with developing pathways out of poverty for long-term success.
